John Keller is a hitman who has a passion for collecting stamps. One would think this type of work and leisure seem to go together. Originality is what makes this character very interesting.
John Keller has been paid in advance for what he thought would be his last job before retirement. He had a funny feeling all along it has been established. Why was he paid in advance? Keller wanted to work more, but every time he made the call for the OK to do so, he was told to wait until the next day. The only person he could really trust was Dot.
Then it happened. The governor was killed. As he was watching television from his motel room, they showed the face of the murderer – a very familiar face at that! Yes, John was put in place. But what is it? He knows that his fingerprints are all over a glock automatic pistol. He was offered a choice of two guns and chose another. Of course, trying to decide which weapons to fire it wanted, John managed the Glock. He spent just end up all his money on some stamps he bought her credit cards are not good and he can not reach by phone Dot.
What happens to John? Does he make it to retirement?
The only way I can describe later this thriller Lawrence Block is to say that I was totally consumed. I did not stop reading it and when I put it down, I could not not wait to pick it up and continue. John Keller is really something to this particular book. He is a man of results, you just have to love. It is its just how calm his relationship with his "jobs" that impress you. It is very closely by "almost always" covering his tracks. There was times when it comes to more than a motel and do not stay in any of them. Every job, it just seems to be all in one day work. This is a novel very fast paced suspense and it also contains humor. Lawrence Block is a master in the art of writing The "Hit Man" series. It seems that Mr. Block could be preparing to "retire" Keller but I hope this does not happen. It is one of the best thrillers I have read and I'd like to see another novel by Jack Keller in the near future.
